Proper Pitching Positions for one-on-one games

Pitching a Ringer

This video demonstrates pitching a ringer. Generally the tip of the quoit should be higher than normal so the quoit falls onto the hub. Some people pitch for ringers by arching the quoit higher in the air, while professionals generally pitch it at a very low arch. A low arch is very hard to perfect, but is deadly when perfected.

Digging Your Opponents Quoit

This video demonstrates how to dig your opponent's quoit out of position. When attempting to dig out another quoit (or knock it off of the board) you want to try to keep the tip of your quoit lower than normal and throw it a little harder than normal.

Pitching For Points

This video demonstrates how to pitch for points instead of for ringers. Notice that the arch of the quoits is low and the tip of the quoit is generally lower than when you throw for a ringer.

Determining the Winning Quoit by Looking at the Back-End of the Quoit:

This video demonstrates how to determine which quoit is closer when it is hard to tell. Many times you will not be able to tell which quoit is closer by looking at the point of the quoit closest to the hub. When you come across this situation look at the back sides of the quoit and many times you will be able to see which quoit has passed the outer lines further. If you still can not tell you should not count either point.
